Things That Make You Go "Hmmmm"...

The other day in the mail, I received something from our medical clinic that looked suspiciously like a bill. I had no desire to open it, but when I did, I discovered much to my surprise that it was a check issued to me for $20. Hmmmm.....

I owe this particular medical clinic money. How is it that they sent me money? I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth; but why on earth would they give me money when I owe them?

This was obviously on my mind the other night when I went to bed and dreamed that Hubby and I were friends with Clay Aiken and Clay had decided to pay off our medical bills. He overpaid $20, which is why I was issued the check. Hmmmm....

Do I cash the check and just be happy for a nice surprise in my mailbox? Or do I take the chance of calling the medical clinic and discover that it was a mistake and I have to give the money back? What a conundrum.

Hmmmm......

P.S. Thanks for all the great birthday wishes. I did end up getting to go out to dinner that evening with my brother and his wife and my cousin and her hubby. Good times
.

Maybe you could cash it and use it to pay your bill!

I'd call and ask them. Since when was a refund EVER in our favor?? I hate having to give $$ back after I've spent it.

I hope if and when you call back they say "Oops, it was supposed to be $200 we'll get that in the mail to ya ASAP!!"

Man, that's a tough one! I would probably suggest the same thing MG suggested. Call them up!

This may have happened because bills are issued from one department, then another expense hasn't showed up yet, so a different department sends a refund.
For 3 years, I was part of a Worker's Comp medical claim, so I was always getting and receiving checks, not always sure what was what.
You will probably have to pay a bill with $20 somewhere along the line, so I say just let it rest in your checking account for a couple months as a cushion.
Not that you need to listen to me. I started with Mary at Owlhaven, then clicked a name or three and ended up putting my nose in here ;)

Unfortunately I think you'll have to call them. I don't think you'll feel good unless you do. Who knows - maybe something wonderful happened!!

Here's my 2 cents....we only refund money when it's requested!!! so keep the money and wait for a revised bill.

Always verify your bills with insurance eob's because all too often I've seen doctors offices try to bill the amount that should be written off. I'll bet it was an overpayment on a copay that wasn't due.
