The One Where I Enroll Anakin in "Women of The 21st Century--101"

The conversation:

Anakin: Do you want to play Checkers, Kristen?

Me: Sure. I need to do the dishes first, though.

Anakin: You always do the dishes, don't you?

Me: Not always, but usually.

Anakin: Oh, I know why. Because that's a woman's job, isn't it?

I promptly dropped the dishes. Daddy will be doing them tonight.

Oops! Time to teach Anakin to do the dishes! He's plenty old enough for sure. He and Daddy should be doing them together every other night! Serioiusly.

I agree with your mom! Boys need to be learning how to do housework as well as the girls...I have no experience with this yet, but it seems right to me.

I would have made him pitch in. Housework is everybody's responsibility.

Kristen,

Too funny! I remember when I had an opportunity to teach my first son this very lesson. It was years ago when "Bring your Child to Work day" started. Curt thought it would be better to skip a day of school and stay home with Mom, "Who didn't work" rather than going to WORK with Dad. Well---WELL!!!! THAT day, Curt arose with me at 6:00 a.m. to go out to the barn to let the horses out, freshen their water, feed them, muck the stalls, and generally do a weeks worth of work in ONE morning to teach that boy a lesson! When we were finally done out in the barn--we moved into the house where we began to dust things (that hadn't been dusted in months!), clean bathrooms, sort closets, and generally--work until he dropped! Later in the afternoon--when he thought it was time for a break--I told him, "Oh no--this is when we begin the evening shift."

Well--without going into full details...you get my point. The "Bring your child to WORK day" allowed me the opportunity to help him understand that, yes, Mom works too! I never heard him say those words again!

Glad Dad did the dishes last night! These are VALUABLE lessons!

Reminds me of "It's Fair Day" in the Clem Domicile. I had had one to many "but it's not FAAAaaiiiirrrr!" complaints, so we had a day of Fair:

I cooked only the food that I ate, washed the dishes I used, laundered the clothes that I wore and then just read a book, while little misses fumbled around fending for themselves.

Things have been pretty "unfair" around here ever since!

LOL! Yeah, I would have mad dad do them too after that comment!

Funny story! :) Yep, definately Daddy's turn!

Also, thank you so much for stopping by today and wishing me belated Happy Birthday! :D

By the way, I read your mom's version of the story of what you faced with your eating disorder battle...so powerful! I really want to read yours, too, and am hoping to come back later today so I can finally read it.

Blessings! :)

Definately time for Anakin to learn how to do the dishes! More free time for you right? I would love to see his face when you start this new tradition!

Yeah, and the laundry, and the dusting, and vacuuming, and and and and . . . his future wife will thank you.
